JCB backhoes were the first company to develop the backhoe. In fact, many people refer to backhoes to this day as JCBs. JCB is a British company, that first equipped the tractor with the backhoe and a loading bucket that was mounted to the front all the way back in 1953.

Ever since its first innovation in 1953, JCB backhoes has continued to revolutionize the backhoe loader, with new developments and innovations. For example, one of the latest groundbreaking developments made in 2005 was to offer a lockup torque converter for the backhoe. This reduces travel times, and improves fuel consumption.
